60 Custom Aluminum Windows for a Senior Activity Center

PROJECT SCOPE

Type: Educational/Recreation Facility
Location: 536 George St., Norristown, PA 19401
Age of Structure: Adaptive Reuse
Window System: Delran Series 60mm Aluminum Windows

Vetrina Windows recently designed and manufactured 60 aluminum window units for the Senior Adult Activities Center of Montgomery County. The project used our Delran Series 60mm window system and included a combination of fixed windows and configurations.

The new windows were produced to fit the existing masonry openings while creating a more consistent, modern appearance throughout the facility. Their large glazed areas bring abundant natural light into activity rooms, offices, corridors, and shared spaces while maintaining the durability required for a frequently used public building.

A Window System Designed Around the Building

Renovation projects involving older institutional and community buildings rarely rely on one standard window size. Existing openings may vary between elevations, rooms, and previous phases of construction.

For this project, Vetrina designed and manufactured each unit according to the building’s specific conditions.

The Delran Series 60mm system provided the flexibility needed to produce multiple configurations within one coordinated window package. Fixed units were used where uninterrupted glass and maximum daylight were the priority. In selected locations, fixed windows were combined with inward-opening hopper sections to provide controlled natural ventilation.

This approach allowed the facility to maintain a consistent frame profile and finish while tailoring each window's operation to the room's needs.

Fixed Windows for Daylight and Clear Views

Many of the new units feature large fixed glass panels. Because these sections do not require operating hardware or additional sash components, they provide broad views and a clean architectural appearance.

For a senior activity center, access to daylight is particularly valuable. The new windows help make exercise rooms, gathering areas, offices, and circulation spaces feel brighter and more connected to the surrounding neighborhood and landscaped areas.

The aluminum framing also supports relatively narrow, orderly sightlines, helping the glass remain the dominant visual element rather than the frame.

Hopper Windows for Controlled Ventilation

Several units combine a fixed upper section with a hopper window below. Hopper windows tilt inward from the top, allowing occupants and staff to introduce fresh air without opening a full-height sash into the room.

This configuration is well-suited to shared and institutional spaces because it offers:

  • Controlled, limited ventilation

  • Simple and accessible operation

  • Minimal intrusion into the occupied space

  • A consistent appearance alongside neighboring fixed units

By incorporating operable sections only where needed, the facility benefits from natural ventilation while retaining large fixed-glass areas throughout the building.

Why Aluminum Works for Community Facilities

Windows installed in senior centers, schools, offices, healthcare-related properties, and other public-use buildings must withstand frequent use while remaining practical to maintain.

Aluminum is a strong choice for these applications because it offers durable framing, dimensional stability, and resistance to moisture-related deterioration. It can support large window assemblies without the bulky appearance often associated with other framing materials.

For property owners and facility managers, the system also provides a clean, professional appearance that can be maintained across multiple elevations and replacement phases. See Vetrina’s full lineup of aluminum window products.

Supporting Renovation Without Changing the Building’s Character

The project demonstrates how a window replacement can improve functionality without requiring a complete redesign of an existing building. The new units follow the rhythm and proportions of the original openings while introducing cleaner frames, larger uninterrupted glass areas, and practical ventilation options.

From the exterior, the repeated vertical window modules complement the building’s brick construction. Inside, the updated glazing brings more visual openness to rooms that previously relied on aging window assemblies.

The result is a practical improvement that respects the existing architecture while supporting the center’s continued use.

A Complete Window Package From Design Through Delivery

For projects involving dozens or hundreds of openings, successful window supply requires more than selecting a product from a catalog. Measurements, configurations, glass requirements, hardware, finishes, fabrication, and delivery must all be coordinated accurately.

Vetrina Windows manages these requirements as part of a complete manufacturing process.

Our team works with developers, contractors, architects, and facility managers to evaluate project conditions, develop appropriate window configurations, prepare the units for production, and coordinate delivery to the jobsite.

Because the windows are manufactured at our facility in Bensalem, Pennsylvania, we can provide direct communication throughout the project and greater control over scheduling, customization, and quality.

Window Solutions for Similar Properties

The Montgomery County Senior Adult Activities Center project reflects the type of work Vetrina is equipped to support across a wide range of existing and new properties, including:

  • Senior living and community facilities

  • Schools and educational buildings

  • Municipal and institutional properties

  • Multifamily residential buildings

  • Offices and mixed-use developments

  • Healthcare and rehabilitation facilities

Whether a project requires fixed glazing, operable windows, mixed configurations, or custom units for existing openings, our team can develop a coordinated package around the needs of the property.

For developers and facility managers, working directly with an experienced window manufacturer helps reduce uncertainty during design and procurement. It also provides a single source for technical coordination, customization, manufacturing, and delivery.

The 60 windows supplied for this Montgomery County facility demonstrate how Vetrina’s Delran Series can be adapted to an existing building while providing the daylight, ventilation, durability, and consistent appearance required for a heavily used community space.
